I make thousands of images a year. With advent of these phone camera and how great it is to photograph with them to make something in a different manner than with an SLR or DSLR camera.
I approach my photography with vigor. I really can count on one hand the number of days I didn't make at least some sort of image. I hunger for it actually as if its essential for me to live.
In all these images I make i see commonalities, not just in eye since they all come from me, but in how there is so much commonality in life around us. I begin to pair images together and sometimes like to do what I did here, just throw a bunch of them together to see how they work with and or against each other--much like people do in society.
It amazes me how you can draw connections and begin to understand things a little better about the world around you when you look at diversities and also connections. We here all the time there is more that connects than what separates us, yet the stuff that separates us can be devastating for sure!
I posted today on Facebook that maybe its time for another Family of Man exhibition. Maybe we explore this idea of of showing our diversity in a big way again, an important way and also show how connected we are. If you're not familiar with the Family of Man exhibition look it up--it was a brilliant mirror held up on society in an exhibition and a series of books.
I think this might be something to think about for the near future and maybe we can use it as a platform to really discuss issues instead of hurling accusations and riling up crowds.
I might put together a few of these collections of my iPhone work just to see what sort of feeling can be gotten on a small scale.
