Bat girl started allIt started out as a picture shared on Facebook between a group of friends (nearly all women, well except for me and maybe two other guys)
The image depicted a woman dressed in a batman costume sitting back chilling with a glass of wine. It was shared by Paula Lynch who wrote: 'Sooo tired... A cup of tea and bed for me... But a superhero we moms must be.. — feeling exhausted.' as her status A few comments later a suggestion was made we actually photograph local strong women as their own personal super hero was made and… well... we were off and running. Kim Lengling was the first to order her costume and we now have our first heroes for this on-going and now growing series. Click on the pictures below to read everyone's story. |
"This is turning into more than we imagined and I for one am thankful to be a part of it. I think we....all of us....are awesome. Not being narcissistic, just saying it takes gumption to put ourselves out there like we are. We are an awesome bunch of Super Heroes," - Kim Lengling, aka Ms. Capt. America.
"So there she was… four years old and walked almost a mile by herself to watch the cowboys at a rodeo.
She stood on the bottom rung of the fence watching, mesmerized by their strength, finesse, and valor." Anne Runkle, aka The Cowgirl "Cancer does not define me, but is part of who I am." - Corinne McCarty aka Teal Warrior

"My humor, my smile and my tears are set, ready to begin my next great venture… Hospice. Volunteering for families when they most need support…that is where I shall wear my cape." -Paula Lynch, aka Wonder Woman
"My invisibility has given me the power to understand and vicariously experience the feelings, thoughts and experiences of other women in abusive relationships. I feel their pain and their despair. I understand why they just can’t leave."Georgia Bauer- The Invisible Woman

"It's about encouraging inner strengths and showing that anyone can be a hero. Watching a show with a 2 year old for the 1467th time without pulling large chunks of hair out is a super power." Maria Firkaly, AKA She-Hulk.
"If I can make someone laugh, if I can make them smile the reward for myself is tenfold."
PJ Vogt, aka Iron Woman "I don’t see my past as tragic, but as a stepping stone that put me on the right path. I can say I have healed my inner peace with teaching others how(to do the same), and I am where I need to be." Patti Prince - Xena: Warrior Princess

"I suggest you think of how you love every day. Then let your imagination go wild and and your inner super woman will rise to the occasion!" - Debbie Peterson, aka Underdog
After Hurricane Katrina, Kristy joined a group of people heading to Mississippi to do what ever they could to help people rebuild. While there she found a red apron in a pile of rubble.
"It meant so much to me to have that apron. An apron is a homemakers' tool. It represented to me all that the people had lost and all that I still had." Kristy Barnes, aka Elasti-girl "I am feisty, strong, and stubborn( in the nicest way) but also a marshmallow inside and a caregiver to any in need. Laughter is my go to when things get tough and prayer. We all face diversity in life but what we do with those experiences make us who you are today." Sue Kilburn, Fighting Spirit
