Understanding your vision is key to understanding your desire to make pictures. If you are always seeing pictures and not doing anything about then you're not doing your visual voice any favors. Seeing a picture is much different than making a picture. Many say they see pictures but what they mean is they see great subjects for pictures. Making it a picture is another matter altogether and that requires either luck or an understanding of your equipment, the situation before you and how to make one work in harmony with the other.
I hate to travel so when I do I try to make some pictures. Even at some place as simple as a rest area I look for some image i can make. I look at everything, signs, puddles, shadows, people… everything. And try to make a picture. Some work, most don't. But even the ones that don't teach me something about making pictures I try to use perhaps at the next rest area.
And sometimes you just have to make a self portrait or selfie and see if you can make it a good photograph.
I think that is the key right there. No matter what the subject is… try to make a good photograph. See the photograph and not just the subject.
